Questions for Northville School Board

Is it true that the Board has discouraged teachers from agreeing to a salary freeze, for the specific purposes of padding the budget and making the fund balance (miraculously) increase at the end of the year? If this is true, then the Board should resign for misleading the public. If this is not true, then why did the salary/benefit freeze not happen? Many other districts either obtained freezes or reduced cost FAR MORE than the Northville District. In fact, one District in Pennsylvania is proposing a 4-Day school week.

  1. This question has been asked and answered many times. I know for a fact that the faculty and support staff have taken a pay freeze.

  2. I am disappointed to see this question coming up over and over again as this has been answered at many B.O.E. meetings which I have personally attended. As a person that has signed to accept a salary freeze I can tell you this, which may answer a portion of your question. I know that both the teacher and support staff unions voted on and agreed to a salary freeze.. This was done as both unions felt that this was the right thing to do to help the school through this financial crisis that was created by an inequity in state funding to our district through a formula that recognizes us as a wealthier district because of the lake ,and a lack of payment for two years worth of taxes from the HRBRRD. The teacher's union has also previously changed their insurance to a PPO plan saving the district $$. I hope this helps you to answer part of your question. Please let's work together to come up with ideas that will work to help our school and not hinder the process through the spreading of information that is incorrect or misinforming to the public.

    Sincerely,
the truth will set you free.

  3. I am a teacher at NCS as well as a taxpayer in the school district. This year, I WILL have a salary freeze, be an advisor for a club without pay, have my property taxes increased, pay higher co-pays to save the district money and buy my classroom supplies on my own (as I did last year). I do not have children in the district (all are out of school), but know that it is my responsibility to provide our current students with an education that will make them productive citizens. Isn't this REALLY the bottom line?
