The current District budget continues to have a substantial percentage of cost in non-mandated enrichment services. Is there any strategy for off-loading these costs in the immediate future? What prevents the Board from doing so, other than insistent lobbying by teachers and parents?
What are the non mandated enrichment services that you are questioning?? It is the belief of many parents and students including myself that courses taught in the area of the arts, pre-k, kindergarten, library,music, band... are essential to a well rounded education. The arts are a reflection of us as a people. What civilization from the past can you think of that is not noted for it's art, music, great works of literature??... I guess that this is the question that I pose back to you. Our educational system would be very bleak if it were not for the essential ARTS!!!
